Since Vatican II the Catholic church has sleepwalked into presuming that the new tertiary educated professionals of this same period are its only experts and leaders. The 'lay apostolate' has been completely forgotten, with laity primarily regarded in terms of 'ministry' within the church. Ordinary lay people are the seeds of the church, the possessors of on-the-ground knowledge, creativity, and energy (the openness, wisdom and strength of the Holy Spirit). God help the church without them.
